It was 2014 when I was still working as a barman at the iconic Jules Basement, a speakeasy bar that's one of those hidden bars you can only enter if you know the location, since it was in the basement of a Mexican restaurant. To get to the bar, you had to walk through the entire restaurant, go through the bathrooms, and when you got to the kitchen, you would find the entrance to that bar. And it was here that the idea of making Mexican Aprons was born.
It was my turn to change the uniforms and we were looking to give a special touch to the image of the bar and in search of an apron that met the needs of the bar service, that was of good quality and that also looked good, it was almost impossible to have it in Mexico, the existing brands did not understand the need that we as bartenders had and much less wanted to manufacture a special apron.
That's when I set about the task of obtaining materials, and I began to design my first models that met these characteristics. With the knowledge that my mother left me about using industrial sewing machines, I made my first aprons with a machine that she had also inherited to me, and with the help of my wife, we managed to have the first pieces ready.
When several of my fellow bartenders saw our aprons, they were surprised. They thought we had brought them from outside of Mexico and asked me for the contact information where we had purchased them. That's when I realized they and many others had the same need as me. That's when I decided to begin production and launch the product on the market.
